It has almost been 80 years since Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable dazzled Hollywood in the 1939 award-winning film Gone with the Wind. Though the two leads have since passed, the actress behind another principle character is celebrating a big birthday at the beginning of July.

On July 1, Olivia de Havilland will turn 101. De Havilland played Melanie Wilkes in Gone with the Wind, cousin and wife to Scarlett O’Hara’s love interest Ashley Wilkes.

Plane wins over alligator

Written by chuck on June 10, 2017 – 6:00 am -

ORLANDO, Fla. – What should have been a smooth landing turned scaly when a pilot at Orlando Executive Airport hit an 11-foot, 500 pound alligator that was crossing the runway, reports CBS Orlando affiliate WKMG-TV.

Local pilot Brad Pierce posted a photo on Facebook Tuesday showing the lifeless reptile and explaining the information he was given about the incident.
“I was told the pilot was flying a Navajo and the gator jumped up and struck the wing during his landing. The gator was killed instantly and the aircraft sustained damage to the wing,” Pierce wrote.

How to remove small kidney stones!

Written by chuck on May 23, 2017 – 6:00 am -

Written by James Hamblin:

East Lansing, Michigan, becomes a ghost town during spring break. Families head south, often to the theme parks in Orlando. A week later, the Midwesterners return sunburned and bereft of disposable income, and, urological surgeon David Wartinger noticed, some also come home with fewer kidney stones.

Wartinger is a professor emeritus at Michigan State, where he has dealt for decades with the scourge of kidney stones, which affect around one in 10 people at some point in life. Most are small, and they pass through us without issue.

From The Washington Post:

Written by chuck on May 10, 2017 – 6:00 am -

I did my research and this is a true story.

From The Washington Post:

The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from the Consulate, at Bergen, Norway.

Reports from fishermen, seal hunters, and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes.

Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well-known glaciers have entirely disappeared.

Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.

Within a few years, it is predicted that due to the ice melt, the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.

Now for the punch line – this report was from November 2, 1922, as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post.
